Nobody at Ujpest will say this on the record and the team sheets have been saying it for weeks. There is a small group in every squad who get picked when the fixture is difficult, and he has joined it.
He is not being dropped. There is simply nowhere in the formation Ujpest are playing to put a man who does what he does, which is a harder thing to be told than any team sheet.
It has been denied twice and printed three times, which is the usual arithmetic. Until Juan Romero signs something — a contract at Ujpest or anywhere else — this column belongs to him.

A squad rebuilt inside one window pays for it in a currency nobody budgets for. The football is not worse than the sum of the players; it is worse than the sum of the players who have played together before.
Every manager keeps a short list in his head of the men he wants on the pitch when the stakes rise, and it is never published. The team sheets for the big afternoons say Tiago Gonçalves is on it.
“Thirty minutes, door closed, everything said. We shook hands after.” Whatever was in the room stayed in the room, and Daniil Sukhoruchko trained the next morning like a man with less to carry.

Zsolt Nagy falls out with a teammate over standards
The oldest argument in any dressing room and the only one that is genuinely about football: one man thinks another is not putting enough in. It is also the row a manager privately does not mind having happened.
Nothing in writing and nothing in public: a word about playing time, given face to face at Haladas. The team sheets over the next month will show whether it was worth having.
A bad atmosphere can be waited out. A group of people meeting afterwards to decide what to do about it cannot, and everybody in the building knows which stage this is.
Bohdan Biloshevskyi and a teammate said things this week that will take longer than a week to unsay. It was not about football, and both of them play on Saturday.

A year in and the language has not come, the city has not opened up, and he eats alone more often than anybody at Haladas would like to admit. It is showing on Saturdays.
The words a physio says slowly. 22 days is what the club will announce and everybody who has heard this diagnosis before knows the number is the least of it: the knee comes back before the player does.
He is 20, he is averaging 7.17, and older professionals have started passing to him in the difficult minutes. That last part is the real scouting report.
Nemanja Žunić and a teammate said things this week that will take longer than a week to unsay. It was not about football, and both of them play on Saturday.
29 days on the announcement, and a year of quiet, unwatched rehabilitation behind it. Haladas lose a player for a season; he loses something harder to name.
There is a version of every career where the player ends up somewhere he chose rather than somewhere that chose him. Oihan Díaz is living that version at Haladas, and it tends to show in the first month.
36 days on the estimate, and a long, private, unglamorous year of a rehabilitation nobody watches. Haladas lose a footballer; he loses considerably more than a season.
The board have said in public what they had been saying in private. Results between now and the next meeting decide it, and everybody in the building knows the arithmetic.
It was not about football and everybody who saw it knows that. Two men who have to play together on Saturday said things at Haladas this week that will take longer than a week to unsay.
“I never wanted to be anywhere else. There is unfinished business here.” Rufo commits to Haladas for another 2 years.

Every squad is half players the manager chose and half players he inherited. Nemanja Žunić was chosen, the man who chose him has gone, and he starts again from nothing under the next one.
A bad atmosphere can be waited out. A group of people meeting afterwards to decide what to do about it cannot, and everybody in the building knows which stage this is.
43 days on the announcement, and a year of quiet, unwatched rehabilitation behind it. Haladas lose a player for a season; he loses something harder to name.
Nemanja Žunić was at the centre of it, and by the time it was pulled apart there were three or four others involved. Training grounds are small places and long seasons make them smaller.
Footballers are asked about their boyhood club so often that nobody listens to the answer. Adame Faiz has just signed for Haladas, and for once the answer mattered.
