Position 3, 20 points, and the result everyone checks first is now theirs. The word is still not being said around the ground, which is how you know everyone is thinking it.
There is an age at which every good afternoon gets described as a throwback, which is unfair and also accurate. 8.29 at 35, and nobody on the pitch was better.
“Some mornings you wake up and you are still a long way from everything you know.” It is not the football and it never was; Andranik are dealing with a man who wants a different country.
Ján Gregus was at the centre of it, and by the time it was pulled apart there were three or four others involved. Training grounds are small places and long seasons make them smaller.
It happens to all of them and it is still the hardest paragraph a local paper has to write. 36 years old, 3 points down on where he was, and a body that has started charging interest on a career.
The oldest argument in any dressing room and the only one that is genuinely about football: one man thinks another is not putting enough in. It is also the row a manager privately does not mind having happened.

At 33 he is supposed to be managing his minutes. Instead he was marked 8.26 and looked, for ninety minutes, exactly like the player everybody remembers.
Higor Leite and a teammate went at it, and not about football. Training grounds are small places and a long season makes them smaller.

Ján Gregus falls out with a teammate over standards

25 signings in three months. Every one of them may be an upgrade and the team can still be worse for a while, which is the part of a rebuild that never appears in the transfer-window verdicts.
The one version of being left out a player cannot argue with, and the one he takes worst. Somebody else has been better and the team sheet says so, in public, every week until it changes.

The view from the dugout
“We controlled it. There were spells I did not like and we will look at them, but the group showed me something.” Gevorg Adamyan, on a 3‑0 win that he was already picking apart on the walk to the press room.
A defender on the scoresheet, which happens rarely enough that everybody in the ground remembers who took the corner. 1 for him, and a mark of 7.78 for the rest of it.
At 19 he is doing things this season that he could not do last season, and doing them every week. Form comes and goes; this has stayed long enough to be called something else.

Words at Andranik training over how hard people work
Somebody said out loud what several people had been thinking. Bryan Van Den Bogaert is at the centre of it, and the squad will now find out whether the standard rises or the pair of them simply stop speaking.

The away end at another club goes home happy
3-0, and a corner of somebody else’s ground that outsang the rest of it. Those coaches leave before dawn and nobody outside them mentions it.
“It had gone on long enough. I would rather have it out than leave it sitting there.” Ten minutes behind a closed door at Andranik, and both men came out saying it was fine.
At 39 he is supposed to be managing his minutes. Instead he was marked 7.81 and looked, for ninety minutes, exactly like the player everybody remembers.
7.86, 1 on the scoresheet, and the specific comedy of a back-four player celebrating like somebody who does this every week. He does not, and that is exactly why the ground reacted the way it did.
Marked 7.95. There is a kind of forward whose value only shows up when you count what he was involved in rather than what he finished, and this is the day that argument makes itself.
Everything agreed with Austria Lustenau, everything agreed with the player; a doctor is the only person left to persuade. The photograph is a day or two away.
Ján Gregus and a teammate said things this week that will take longer than a week to unsay. It was not about football, and both of them play on Saturday.
Some transfers need a press campaign. This one needed a shirt with the old number on it. Aram Petrosyan is a Andranik player again, and the town has its story of the summer.

Ask anyone on the way out what separated the sides and you will get one name: Luisinho. 2‑0 against Azuriz, and the applause at the whistle was mostly his.
Successful dribbles: 18. Every time he got the ball somebody had to make a decision, and every time the decision was wrong.

The manager’s verdict
“I am not going to get carried away and I will not let them either. It was a good day. There will be harder ones.” Matheus Machado kept it short after the 2‑0 win, which is what managers do when they are happy.
Asked to play a role that is not his, or taken off before the hour once too often — Roger has let it be known that he does not like the way Operário-MS are using him. Managers hear this long before the press does.
