Not now, not at any price the club was prepared to say out loud. Espanyol have kept their man, and Partizan go back to a list with one name crossed off it.
Fee agreed, wages agreed, and Javor-Matis waiting with a shirt. Nobody at Partizan is pretending otherwise, and the supporters have stopped asking whether and started asking when.

There are footballers who have a good season and footballers a season is remembered for, and the second kind get their names read out in a hall in the summer. Partizan will be quietly delighted and privately nervous.
The offer went to Smederevo 1924 this week and it is theirs to answer. First bids are rarely meant to succeed; they are meant to find out how loud the door closes.
The number the board signed off was not enough. It has been asked again and raised its own offer to $850.0K — a club that wants Veljko Vukojević enough to be asked twice.

Andrej Vuletić and a teammate said things this week that will take longer than a week to unsay. It was not about football, and both of them play on Saturday.

Words at FAP Priboj training over how hard people work
Somebody said out loud what several people had been thinking. Srđan Drašković is at the centre of it, and the squad will now find out whether the standard rises or the pair of them simply stop speaking.
Not now, not at any price the club was prepared to say out loud. Mladost Lucani have kept their man, and FAP Priboj go back to a list with one name crossed off it.
He is 21 and the ground already sings his name, which is a thing that happens to local boys and almost never to signings. Everything from here is measured against an affection he did nothing to earn except be from here.
Emmanuel Dzigbah, 20, plays like he has been here for years — 8.19
A mark of 8.19 means one thing beside a twenty-nine-year-old's name and something else entirely beside a 20-year-old's. Nobody at the ground needed telling which this was.
Miloš Divac and a teammate said things this week that will take longer than a week to unsay. It was not about football, and both of them play on Saturday.
There is a particular warmth a ground reserves for a 20-year-old it feels ownership of. Emmanuel Dzigbah has it now, and everything he does for the rest of his time here will be measured against the goodwill he was handed for free.
Three points for FAP Priboj, 2‑0 the final word against Kabel in a contest settled by the finer margins.

Words at FAP Priboj training over how hard people work
Somebody said out loud what several people had been thinking. Đorđe Glišović is at the centre of it, and the squad will now find out whether the standard rises or the pair of them simply stop speaking.
“Some decisions take a long time. This one took ten minutes, and most of that was finding a pen.” Đorđe Milinković and FAP Priboj agree another 4 years.
Bones knit. That is the one merciful thing about this injury and the reason Cukaricki will talk about it more openly than they would about a knee. He will be back, and roughly when they say.
“This is not anger. I have thought about it for months, and nothing that has happened lately changed my mind.” The request is on a desk at Cukaricki, and it is not being withdrawn.
It was not about football and everybody who saw it knows that. Two men who have to play together on Saturday said things at Cukaricki this week that will take longer than a week to unsay.
“It had gone on long enough. I would rather have it out than leave it sitting there.” Ten minutes behind a closed door at Cukaricki, and both men came out saying it was fine.
Nobody at Cukaricki is suggesting he is out of form. The manager simply wanted somebody with a different set of qualities for ninety specific minutes, and there is nothing a player can train to fix that.
It was not about football and everybody who saw it knows that. Two men who have to play together on Saturday said things at Cukaricki this week that will take longer than a week to unsay.
“Nobody here is above being told.” It was not said with a name attached, but the dressing room can count, and so can everybody who was listening.

The manager’s verdict
“That is on me. I pick the team and I picked wrong.” Managers say that when they mean it and when they need to be seen to, and after 2‑3 Andrija Mladenovic left the room before anybody could ask which.
Every signing waits for it and every press conference asks about it until it comes. It has come, Cukaricki have their man off the mark, and the second one is always easier.
Nobody at Cukaricki will say this on the record and the team sheets have been saying it for weeks. There is a small group in every squad who get picked when the fixture is difficult, and he has joined it.
4 without a win now, and the ground has developed the special quiet of a crowd that expects the worst. One scrappy 1-0 would cure most of it; that is the maddening part.
Somebody said out loud what several people thought about how hard another man trains, and Srđan Drašković was in the middle of it. The one dressing-room argument that is genuinely about football.
Miloš Divac was at the centre of it, and by the time it was pulled apart there were three or four others involved. Training grounds are small places and long seasons make them smaller.
Goalkeepers do not get to make mistakes; they get to make goals. He made one, he knew it instantly, and there was nobody behind him to make it anything else.
“I could talk about decisions and I could talk about luck. I will not. We lost.” The manager, 0‑3, and a press conference that lasted four minutes.

The manager has not finished forgetting Stuart Moore's mistake
Publicly it is behind everybody. It is not behind the man who picks the team, and the only place that shows is a team sheet. He will get another chance; he will get it in a match that matters less.
32 days on the estimate, and a long, private, unglamorous year of a rehabilitation nobody watches. Cukaricki lose a footballer; he loses considerably more than a season.
“I have given this everything, but my family is not here and neither am I, not really.” A footballer can be coached out of bad form. Nobody has ever been coached out of this, and Cukaricki know it.
Every shape has positions in it and this one does not have his. Cukaricki will either change the shape, change his job, or change his club, and he is waiting to hear which.
Nobody at Cukaricki will say this on the record and the team sheets have been saying it for weeks. There is a small group in every squad who get picked when the fixture is difficult, and he has joined it.
Another week, another link, another denial nobody quite believes. Cukaricki know the market decides these things, not the back pages — but the back pages are louder.
Defending was optional and nobody took up the option. 6 goals between FAP Priboj and Jedinstvo Ub, and not one of the people who paid to be there will ask for the money back.
Josh Kelly and a teammate said things this week that will take longer than a week to unsay. It was not about football, and both of them play on Saturday.

8 new signings in one window. Every one may be an upgrade and the side can still be worse for a while, which is the part of a rebuild the verdicts never mention.

The view from the dugout
“We will look at it, we will learn from it, and we go again.” The three sentences every manager keeps for a 2‑4 defeat, delivered by Djordje Sergej to a room that had heard them before.
2 goals to the good, and then a slow surrender of everything that had been earned. Martin Anđelković will not be the one blamed for it, but nobody at FAP Priboj escapes the conversation that follows a collapse like this.
The hardest thing about being 20 in a senior side is that nobody makes allowances. Emmanuel Dzigbah did not need any: 7.73, and he looked the most comfortable man on the pitch.
7 games unbeaten now. Some were earned and some were survived, but a habit is forming — and habits are the hardest thing in football to play against.

At 21 he is being sung about by people twice his age, which is an affection a signing has to earn over years and a local kid gets for turning up. It is also the hardest thing in football to live up to.
The words a physio says slowly. 71 days is what the club will announce and everybody who has heard this diagnosis before knows the number is the least of it: the knee comes back before the player does.
10 signings in three months. Every one of them may be an upgrade and the team can still be worse for a while, which is the part of a rebuild that never appears in the transfer-window verdicts.
“I watch every Cukaricki game from here. That says everything about where my head is.” The loan at Smederevo 1924 runs its course, but his heart never made the trip.
Radnicki Nis next, and one man in the Cukaricki dressing room knows their training ground better than his own. The reception will tell him what they thought of him.
“I did not come here to warm up in front of people.” He is out of contract eventually, he is old enough to count the weeks, and Cukaricki will have to give him a reason to stay or an exit.
Not a run of form — an actual step up, held for months. At 22 he is doing things at this level he could not do at the start of the season, and the coaching staff will tell you exactly which of them.

There is no fee, no unveiling and no agent on the steps. Vladimir Milenkovic has been at this club since he was a boy and is now, formally, one of the first-team squad — which for a local readership beats any signing of any size.
Something was said to Emmanuel Dzigbah and then it happened. In this industry that passes for remarkable, and the dressing room noticed faster than any supporter could.

19 new faces, and FAP Priboj are still learning each other
A squad rebuilt inside one window pays for it in a currency nobody budgets for. The football is not worse than the sum of the players; it is worse than the sum of the players who have played together before.
Every squad has one of these fixtures for somebody every season. This one is Andrej Vuletić’s: the club that knew him first, the supporters who will decide in the first minute whether to applaud, and FAP Priboj needing him to play as if none of it matters.
A mark of 7.61 means one thing beside a twenty-nine-year-old's name and something else entirely beside a 20-year-old's. Nobody at the ground needed telling which this was.

8.35. There are performances a supporter describes to somebody who was not there and cannot quite convey; this was one, and the number does not help either.
The oldest argument in any dressing room and the only one that is genuinely about football: one man thinks another is not putting enough in. It is also the row a manager privately does not mind having happened.

The view from the dugout
“We controlled it. There were spells I did not like and we will look at them, but the group showed me something.” Djordje Sergej, on a 3‑1 win that he was already picking apart on the walk to the press room.
Every signing waits for it and every press conference asks about it until it comes. It has come, FAP Priboj have their man off the mark, and the second one is always easier.
Ninety specific minutes wanted a different sort of player, and the manager picked one. He is not out of form and he is not in the side, and both are true.
