Leon Marinič damages knee ligaments — 129 days out
The words a physio says slowly. 129 days is what the club will announce and everybody who has heard this diagnosis before knows the number is the least of it: the knee comes back before the player does.
It has stopped being a mood in the stands and started being something organised. Boards can ignore a bad atmosphere for a long time; they cannot ignore this stage of it for very long at all.
The clubs have agreed terms, and what remains is formality: a medical, a photograph, a signature. Nobody at Bistrica is pretending he will be back in the shirt.
Gilles Lentz and a teammate said things this week that will take longer than a week to unsay. It was not about football, and both of them play on Saturday.

Words at Bistrica training over how hard people work
Somebody said out loud what several people had been thinking. Jakob Cukjati is at the centre of it, and the squad will now find out whether the standard rises or the pair of them simply stop speaking.
“Some mornings you wake up and you are still a long way from everything you know.” It is not the football and it never was; Bistrica are dealing with a man who wants a different country.
Something was said to Gilles Lentz and then it happened. In this industry that passes for remarkable, and the dressing room noticed faster than any supporter could.
Jakob Cukjati was at the centre of it, and by the time it was pulled apart there were three or four others involved. Training grounds are small places and long seasons make them smaller.
It finished 3‑2, and it was Jakob Cukjati’s afternoon: on the scoresheet when it mattered, and the reason the points belong to Bistrica.

He is 22 and the ground already sings his name, which is a thing that happens to local boys and almost never to signings. Everything from here is measured against an affection he did nothing to earn except be from here.
A defender's mistake gets tidied up by somebody else; a goalkeeper's ends up in the net. He knew before the ball crossed the line, and so did everybody in the ground.
Nobody will confirm this and nothing else explains the last month of selections. A costly error buys a player a period of being second choice that is always longer than the error was.
The board have said in public what they had been saying in private. Results between now and the next meeting decide it, and everybody in the building knows the arithmetic.
The official line will be that it was routine. It was not routine, the timing says so, and every person in that room knows what the next bad result costs.
A medical, a signature, a shirt held up in front of a sponsor’s board. Bistrica have done the hard part with NK Krsko, and the part that remains is the part supporters actually see.
It was not about football and everybody who saw it knows that. Two men who have to play together on Saturday said things at Bistrica this week that will take longer than a week to unsay.
Footballers are asked about their boyhood club so often that nobody listens to the answer. Eryk Szymański has just signed for Bistrica, and for once the answer mattered.
Somebody said out loud what several people thought about how hard another man trains, and Matic Slavec was in the middle of it. The one dressing-room argument that is genuinely about football.
Bistrica asked and Ilirija 1911 said no without discussing a figure. It is the least ambiguous answer in football and the one clubs most often come back to test.
Matic Slavec falls out with a teammate over standards
The oldest argument in any dressing room and the only one that is genuinely about football: one man thinks another is not putting enough in. It is also the row a manager privately does not mind having happened.

Another week, another link, another denial nobody quite believes. Bistrica know the market decides these things, not the back pages — but the back pages are louder.
He asked about his future and was given an answer with minutes in it. The manager has now made a promise in a building where promises are remembered, and the clock on it has started.
A bad atmosphere can be waited out. A group of people meeting afterwards to decide what to do about it cannot, and everybody in the building knows which stage this is.
Position 15 and 27 points, and the table gets read bottom-up in this part of town. The calendar has stopped being a schedule and started being a countdown.

“Thirty minutes, door closed, everything said. We shook hands after.” Whatever was in the room stayed in the room, and Nicolae Sula trained the next morning like a man with less to carry.
“I respect the manager and I am not going to sit here and pretend I am happy.” It is the most common sentence in football and it has never once been the end of a story.

“If you cannot run for the shirt, somebody else will wear it.” No name was used and none was needed; every player in that room knew who it was for.

The manager has not finished forgetting Lan Drevenšek's mistake
Publicly it is behind everybody. It is not behind the man who picks the team, and the only place that shows is a team sheet. He will get another chance; he will get it in a match that matters less.
“It had gone on long enough. I would rather have it out than leave it sitting there.” Ten minutes behind a closed door at Bistrica, and both men came out saying it was fine.

A manager forgives a bad Saturday far more readily than a bad Tuesday, because one of them he can explain and the other one he chose. The reports this week have not been good.

“I pick players who do the work. All of it.” No name was spoken; every camera still turned to Tadej Zonta, and the manager let it.

Lan Drevenšek is still being punished for one mistake
Nobody will confirm it and the team sheets confirm it every week. One error has bought him a spell as second choice that is already longer than the error deserved.
Another week, another link, another denial nobody quite believes. Bistrica know the market decides these things, not the back pages — but the back pages are louder.
Everybody at Bistrica saw it before anybody said it, which is how this always goes. At 35 the decline is real and measurable — 3 points — and the only question left is how the club handles somebody it owes a great deal to.

Up for the corner, and Jaka Kasnik delivers — 7.58
Centre-halves are allowed forward twice a season and are judged on what they do when they get there. Jaka Kasnik scored, was marked 7.58, and got back before anybody noticed he had gone.

There is a figure at which a wage bill stops being ambitious and becomes the reason nothing else is possible, and this club has reached it. Nothing is left over for a transfer, a stand or a rainy afternoon.
5 new signings in one window. Every one may be an upgrade and the side can still be worse for a while, which is the part of a rebuild the verdicts never mention.
“I respect the manager and I am not going to sit here and pretend I am happy.” It is the most common sentence in football and it has never once been the end of a story.
There is no complaint available here and everybody involved knows it, which does not make the walk to the bench any shorter. Form is the only currency in football that cannot be borrowed against.
What was said behind closed doors has now been said in front of a microphone. Everybody at Bistrica can do the arithmetic, including the man it is aimed at.
“Things were said to me before I signed. I am not going to repeat them, but I remember all of them.” Bistrica have not answered, which is an answer of sorts.
The clubs had agreed and the player had not. A snub, and a public one: CSC Dumbrăvița keep him, and the supporters here are left wondering what he had heard about the place.

Two sides from the bottom of the table, three points, and an afternoon that will be described afterwards as a relegation decider by whoever loses it.

The Bistrica dressing room has split into 5 groups
Squads form friendships and that is healthy; this is not that. 5 separate groups, 4 players belonging to none of them, and a set of tables at lunch that have stopped rearranging themselves. It very rarely fixes itself.
