What was said behind closed doors has now been said in front of a microphone. Everybody at Djakovo Croatia can do the arithmetic, including the man it is aimed at.
Bones knit. That is the one merciful thing about this injury and the reason Djakovo Croatia will talk about it more openly than they would about a knee. He will be back, and roughly when they say.
Branko Vrgoč was at the centre of it, and by the time it was pulled apart there were three or four others involved. Training grounds are small places and long seasons make them smaller.
20 days, the medical staff say, and medical staff are optimists by profession. The team sheet will look wrong without him.

The manager’s verdict
“That is on me. I pick the team and I picked wrong.” Managers say that when they mean it and when they need to be seen to, and after 0‑2 Fran Juranovic left the room before anybody could ask which.
Every squad is half players the manager chose and half players he inherited. Branko Vrgoč was chosen, the man who chose him has gone, and he starts again from nothing under the next one.
A bad atmosphere can be waited out. A group of people meeting afterwards to decide what to do about it cannot, and everybody in the building knows which stage this is.
Brutal, unambiguous and, for all the horror of the moment, usually less career-shaped than the ligament everybody fears more. 65 days, a clean timeline, and a return date somebody can actually plan around.
Branko Vrgoč and a teammate said things this week that will take longer than a week to unsay. It was not about football, and both of them play on Saturday.
Somebody said out loud what several people thought about how hard another man trains, and Bruno Brajković was in the middle of it. The one dressing-room argument that is genuinely about football.
Lukas Đikić, 18, plays like he has been here for years — 7.66
A mark of 7.66 means one thing beside a twenty-nine-year-old's name and something else entirely beside a 18-year-old's. Nobody at the ground needed telling which this was.
The most common injury in the game and the most rushed back from. Djakovo Croatia will quote 15 days and will be careful with it, because the second one is always worse than the first.
4 without a win now, and the ground has developed the special quiet of a crowd that expects the worst. One scrappy 1-0 would cure most of it; that is the maddening part.
1‑1, and both dressing rooms will call it two points lost. A draw that asked plenty of questions and answered none of them.

The view from the dugout
“We did not lose. Some weeks that is all you get, and I would rather have the point than not.” Fran Juranovic chose the glass-half-full version of 1‑1; the supporters left with the other one.
Ninety specific minutes wanted a different sort of player, and the manager picked one. He is not out of form and he is not in the side, and both are true.
It was not about football and everybody who saw it knows that. Two men who have to play together on Saturday said things at Djakovo Croatia this week that will take longer than a week to unsay.
The oldest argument in any dressing room and the only one that is genuinely about football: one man thinks another is not putting enough in. It is also the row a manager privately does not mind having happened.
18 signings in three months. Every one of them may be an upgrade and the team can still be worse for a while, which is the part of a rebuild that never appears in the transfer-window verdicts.
“We were not good enough today and I am not going to dress it up.” Fran Juranovic after 1‑3, in the tone of a man who knows the next question and does not intend to answer it.
It is not much of a headline and it is the reason players believe the next promise. Djakovo Croatia told Roko Vojvodić something would happen and then it happened, which in this industry passes for remarkable.
The manager wanted a different profile for this opponent, which is a real football reason and no consolation. He did nothing wrong and he did not play.
Position 16 and 4 points, and the table gets read bottom-up in this part of town. The calendar has stopped being a schedule and started being a countdown.
At 18 he is doing things this season that he could not do last season, and doing them every week. Form comes and goes; this has stayed long enough to be called something else.
Branko Vrgoč and a teammate said things this week that will take longer than a week to unsay. It was not about football, and both of them play on Saturday.
Somebody said out loud what several people thought about how hard another man trains, and Zvonko Pamić was in the middle of it. The one dressing-room argument that is genuinely about football.
Every club in football pays most of what it earns to its players. Paying nearly all of it is a different arrangement, and it has ended the same way every time somebody has tried it.
The demotion a club never announces and a dressing room always notices. Lukas Đikić is further from the side than he was, and the reason will not be given until he asks.

The manager has not finished forgetting Jan Hlapčić's mistake
Publicly it is behind everybody. It is not behind the man who picks the team, and the only place that shows is a team sheet. He will get another chance; he will get it in a match that matters less.
Nobody at Djakovo Croatia is suggesting he is out of form. The manager simply wanted somebody with a different set of qualities for ninety specific minutes, and there is nothing a player can train to fix that.
Every squad has one of these fixtures for somebody every season. This one is Bruno Međimorec’s: the club that knew him first, the supporters who will decide in the first minute whether to applaud, and Djakovo Croatia needing him to play as if none of it matters.
