The oldest argument in any dressing room and the only one that is genuinely about football: one man thinks another is not putting enough in. It is also the row a manager privately does not mind having happened.
He used to wear the other shirt. On Saturday he plays against NK Krka in this one, and whatever he says this week about it being just another game will be untrue.
“Thirty minutes, door closed, everything said. We shook hands after.” Whatever was in the room stayed in the room, and Jakob Zbašnik trained the next morning like a man with less to carry.
Another week, another link, another denial nobody quite believes. NK Krsko know the market decides these things, not the back pages — but the back pages are louder.
“I respect the manager and I am not going to sit here and pretend I am happy.” It is the most common sentence in football and it has never once been the end of a story.
What was a back-page story is now a matter for the terraces, and the terraces do not do nuance. NK Krsko would like it dealt with before it becomes the only question anybody asks.
Everybody saw it before anybody said it. At 37 the numbers say 3 points down on what he was, and the question for NK Krsko is how to handle a man they owe a great deal.

A squad rebuilt inside one window pays for it in a currency nobody budgets for. The football is not worse than the sum of the players; it is worse than the sum of the players who have played together before.
Clubs make promises constantly and the page usually only hears about them when they are broken. This one was honoured, and the dressing room noticed that faster than any supporter did.
He trains hard, says the right things and goes home to an empty flat. Nobody at NK Krsko has done anything wrong, which is exactly what makes it so difficult to fix.

At 18 he is being measured against the rest of the division's kids and coming out in front. The senior version of this award is where the club would like this to lead.
There is a level at which a footballer stops being tested and starts being contained, and he reached it some time ago. NK Krsko know it, and so does everybody who watches him.
