There are footballers who have a good season and footballers a season is remembered for, and the second kind get their names read out in a hall in the summer. KTP will be quietly delighted and privately nervous.
André Álvarez Pérez was at the centre of it, and by the time it was pulled apart there were three or four others involved. Training grounds are small places and long seasons make them smaller.
“I have tried. I have really tried, and every day I wake up in the wrong place.” Nobody at KTP can coach that out of a man, and nobody there is pretending to.
Somebody said out loud what several people had been thinking. Lassi Järvenpää is at the centre of it, and the squad will now find out whether the standard rises or the pair of them simply stop speaking.

Somebody said out loud what several people thought about how hard another man trains, and Joonas Meura was in the middle of it. The one dressing-room argument that is genuinely about football.
It has been denied twice and printed three times, which is the usual arithmetic. Until Vincent Lind signs something — a contract at KTP or anywhere else — this column belongs to him.
“I did not come here to warm up in front of people.” He is out of contract eventually, he is old enough to count the weeks, and KTP will have to give him a reason to stay or an exit.
34 days on the estimate, and a long, private, unglamorous year of a rehabilitation nobody watches. KTP lose a footballer; he loses considerably more than a season.
Somebody said out loud what several people thought about how hard another man trains, and Lassi Järvenpää was in the middle of it. The one dressing-room argument that is genuinely about football.
“It had gone on long enough. I would rather have it out than leave it sitting there.” Ten minutes behind a closed door at KTP, and both men came out saying it was fine.
A conversation in the manager’s office, and a commitment that came out of it. Promises like that are cheap to make and expensive to break, and Arttu Tulehmo has written the date down.
He trains hard, says the right things and goes home to an empty flat. Nobody at KTP has done anything wrong, which is exactly what makes it so difficult to fix.

Supporters make their feelings known about Arttu Tulehmo
The speculation has reached the stands, and the stands have answered. KTP would like this settled before it becomes the only thing anybody asks about.

It was not about football and everybody who saw it knows that. Two men who have to play together on Saturday said things at KTP this week that will take longer than a week to unsay.
“I have done everything asked of me in training and it has not changed a thing on a Saturday.” The most familiar complaint in football, and one KTP will have to answer with minutes or with a transfer.

Bones knit. That is the one merciful thing about this injury and the reason KTP will talk about it more openly than they would about a knee. He will be back, and roughly when they say.

“I respect the manager and I am not going to sit here and pretend I am happy.” It is the most common sentence in football and it has never once been the end of a story.
“Thirty minutes, door closed, everything said. We shook hands after.” Whatever was in the room stayed in the room, and Mustapha Coker trained the next morning like a man with less to carry.

“This is not anger. I have thought about it for months, and nothing that has happened lately changed my mind.” The request is on a desk at KTP, and it is not being withdrawn.
The oldest argument in any dressing room and the only one that is genuinely about football: one man thinks another is not putting enough in. It is also the row a manager privately does not mind having happened.
Position 5 on 24 points. Every season is a story and this is the last line of it, and now the club has three months to decide what the next one is about.
Form comes and goes; this has not gone. Elias Pelgander is 19, and the version of him training now would not have got into the side he was in a year ago.

The offer from Haka for Ahmed Adebayo was heard out and sent back the same day. First bids are rarely meant to succeed; they are meant to find out how loudly the door closes.
“I have nothing bad to say about this place. I just need to be somewhere else.” It is in writing now, which changes what KTP can pretend not to have heard.
The name of Rasmus Harjanne has come up in conversations KTP were not part of. Nothing formal, nothing signed — but nothing about it accidental either.

Maksym Zhuk falls out with a teammate over standards
The oldest argument in any dressing room and the only one that is genuinely about football: one man thinks another is not putting enough in. It is also the row a manager privately does not mind having happened.
Conceding is one thing; the response is what tells you about a dressing room. Joakim Latonen had KTP level again within 2 minutes, and Haka never got to play with a lead at all.
A player who expected to start watched it instead. The manager will call it a decision for the team; Aleksi Paananen will call it something else in private.
The clubs have agreed terms, and what remains is formality: a medical, a photograph, a signature. Nobody at KTP is pretending he will be back in the shirt.
At 19 he is being sung about by people twice his age, which is an affection a signing has to earn over years and a local kid gets for turning up. It is also the hardest thing in football to live up to.

7.38, and no serious argument from anybody who was there. KTP had eleven men on the pitch and one of them decided how it went.

The manager’s verdict
“I am frustrated, honestly. We did enough to win and we did not win.” Jasse Taylor was not hiding it after 0‑0, and nobody in the KTP dressing room was either.
“It had gone on long enough. I would rather have it out than leave it sitting there.” Ten minutes behind a closed door at KTP, and both men came out saying it was fine.
Some afternoons a goalkeeper is the whole of the defence. 9 saves, several of them the kind nobody expects to see made, and ten outfield players who owe him a drink.
3‑0, and the margin flattered nobody — it could have carried another goal or two without complaint. Afternoons like this are why people keep coming.

A brace, and Ahmed Adebayo takes the afternoon — 9.11
There is a particular kind of quiet from an away end watching one man score twice. Ahmed Adebayo provided it, and the 9.11 beside his name is if anything generous to everybody else.
At 37 he is supposed to be managing his minutes. Instead he was marked 8.02 and looked, for ninety minutes, exactly like the player everybody remembers.

“If you cannot run for the shirt, somebody else will wear it.” No name was used and none was needed; every player in that room knew who it was for.

The view from the dugout
“We controlled it. There were spells I did not like and we will look at them, but the group showed me something.” Jasse Taylor, on a 3‑0 win that he was already picking apart on the walk to the press room.
Supporters who sing when it goes badly are supporters. Supporters who gather afterwards are a problem, and everybody inside the building knows which of the two this now is.

It has stopped being a mood in the stands and started being something organised. Boards can ignore a bad atmosphere for a long time; they cannot ignore this stage of it for very long at all.

“Some mornings you wake up and you are still a long way from everything you know.” It is not the football and it never was; KTP are dealing with a man who wants a different country.
Every squad is half players the manager chose and half players he inherited. Petteri Forsell was chosen, the man who chose him has gone, and he starts again from nothing under the next one.

There is a particular warmth a ground reserves for a 18-year-old it feels ownership of. Vincent Lind has it now, and everything he does for the rest of his time here will be measured against the goodwill he was handed for free.

Successful dribbles: 16. He went past people as if he had been told there was a prize for it, and by the end the full-back had stopped pretending to try.
The clubs had agreed and the player had not. A snub, and a public one: HJK keep him, and the supporters here are left wondering what he had heard about the place.

Every manager keeps a short list in his head of the men he wants on the pitch when the stakes rise, and it is never published. The team sheets for the big afternoons say Maksym Zhuk is on it.
Every shape has positions in it and this one does not have his. KTP will either change the shape, change his job, or change his club, and he is waiting to hear which.
