“Nobody here is above being told.” It was not said with a name attached, but the dressing room can count, and so can everybody who was listening.

Gladson Asante was on a different afternoon to everybody else
8.33. There are performances a supporter describes to somebody who was not there and cannot quite convey; this was one, and the number does not help either.
Signings arrive with a picture of the club in their head, and this one’s picture was bigger than the building. He will play well and he will be gone, in that order, and everybody knows it.
“Some decisions take a long time. This one took ten minutes, and most of that was finding a pen.” Abdul Boateng and Wa All Stars agree another 3 years.
A goalkeeper’s error has no defender behind it to tidy it away. He knew before the ball crossed the line, the crowd knew a second later, and there is nothing anybody can say tonight.

Edmund Addo is still being punished for one mistake
Nobody will confirm it and the team sheets confirm it every week. One error has bought him a spell as second choice that is already longer than the error deserved.
In brief
SquadWa All Stars are still strangers to each other
He is 19, and nobody at Wa All Stars signed him for this season. Deals like this are judged in four years, by people who may not still be in the building.
He is not being dropped. There is simply nowhere in the formation Wa All Stars are playing to put a man who does what he does, which is a harder thing to be told than any team sheet.
A brace, and Andre Inusah takes the afternoon — 8.76
There is a particular kind of quiet from an away end watching one man score twice. Andre Inusah provided it, and the 8.76 beside his name is if anything generous to everybody else.
4 wins in a row changes how opponents warm up: quieter, more glances across. Runs end, everybody knows that — but nobody in this dressing room is planning for it.
It was not about football and everybody who saw it knows that. Two men who have to play together on Saturday said things at Wa All Stars this week that will take longer than a week to unsay.
Not a run of form — an actual step up, held for months. At 19 he is doing things at this level he could not do at the start of the season, and the coaching staff will tell you exactly which of them.
A month is long enough that nobody gets in by accident. Edmund Addo is in the division's best eleven for it, which is a quieter compliment than an award and a more reliable one.

The manager’s verdict
“I am not going to get carried away and I will not let them either. It was a good day. There will be harder ones.” Isaac Boateng kept it short after the 2‑1 win, which is what managers do when they are happy.
Nothing is announced when this happens and everybody knows. He is a bigger part of the plan at Wa All Stars than he was a month ago, and the training ground worked that out before the team sheet said so.
In brief
The dugoutThe plan did not have a place for David Adjei
Andre Inusah was at the centre of it, and by the time it was pulled apart there were three or four others involved. Training grounds are small places and long seasons make them smaller.
Three points for Wa All Stars, 1‑0 the final word against Hasaacas in a contest settled by the finer margins.

Andre Inusah was on a different afternoon to everybody else
8.00. There are performances a supporter describes to somebody who was not there and cannot quite convey; this was one, and the number does not help either.
“I am grateful for the games, but I did not become a footballer to be somebody else's spare part.” He wants to be at Wa All Stars, and 0 appearances in 5 say he has earned the hearing.
Successful dribbles: 14. He went past people as if he had been told there was a prize for it, and by the end the full-back had stopped pretending to try.
The shape wanted a different profile against this opponent, which is a real football answer and no comfort at all to the man it is about. He did nothing wrong and he did not play.
“I have nothing bad to say about this place. I just need to be somewhere else.” It is in writing now, which changes what Wa All Stars can pretend not to have heard.
David Mohammed and a teammate said things this week that will take longer than a week to unsay. It was not about football, and both of them play on Saturday.
A 1‑0 win over Heart of Lions, earned rather than given, and the sort of afternoon that sends everyone home talking about next week instead of this one.
“The players deserve the credit. My job was easy today.” It was not, and everybody in the room knew it; after 1‑0, Isaac Boateng could afford to be generous.
The manager wanted a different profile for this opponent, which is a real football reason and no consolation. He did nothing wrong and he did not play.
Gladson Asante wins it after the whistle should have gone
96 minutes played. Gladson Asante found the finish in time that only existed because of earlier delays, and Berekum Chelsea went from a point to nothing inside one movement.
“I have nothing bad to say about this place. I just need to be somewhere else.” It is in writing now, which changes what Wa All Stars can pretend not to have heard.
A 3‑2 win over Berekum Chelsea, earned rather than given, and the sort of afternoon that sends everyone home talking about next week instead of this one.
At 23 he is being sung about by people twice his age, which is an affection a signing has to earn over years and a local kid gets for turning up. It is also the hardest thing in football to live up to.
“I watch every Wa All Stars game from here. That says everything about where my head is.” The loan at Great Olympics runs its course, but his heart never made the trip.

Wa All Stars and Asante Kotoko have settled on $370.0K. The rest belongs to the player and his agent, and a supporter who has watched one of these before knows not to buy the shirt yet.
The offer went to Berekum Chelsea this week and it is theirs to answer. First bids are rarely meant to succeed; they are meant to find out how loud the door closes.
Not now, not at any price the club was prepared to say out loud. Ikorodu City have kept their man, and Wa All Stars go back to a list with one name crossed off it.
He is not being dropped. There is simply nowhere in the formation Wa All Stars are playing to put a man who does what he does, which is a harder thing to be told than any team sheet.
A new face in his position, and Gladson Asante suddenly has to win back what he thought he owned. Wa All Stars have promised nothing — clubs rarely do at this stage.
“I have nothing bad to say about this place. I just need to be somewhere else.” It is in writing now, which changes what Wa All Stars can pretend not to have heard.
The phone has started ringing about Yaw Nuhu again, and this time the name on the line is Asante Kotoko. Wa All Stars are listening politely and promising nothing.
Everything agreed with Hearts of Oak, everything agreed with the player; a doctor is the only person left to persuade. The photograph is a day or two away.
It was not about football and everybody who saw it knows that. Two men who have to play together on Saturday said things at Wa All Stars this week that will take longer than a week to unsay.
Wa All Stars asked and Rangers International said no without discussing a figure. It is the least ambiguous answer in football and the one clubs most often come back to test.
Somebody said out loud what several people thought about how hard another man trains, and Albert Wakaso was in the middle of it. The one dressing-room argument that is genuinely about football.
“It had gone on long enough. I would rather have it out than leave it sitting there.” Ten minutes behind a closed door at Wa All Stars, and both men came out saying it was fine.
In brief
The dugoutThe manager makes an example of Bernard Boakye
Daouda Kone and a teammate said things this week that will take longer than a week to unsay. It was not about football, and both of them play on Saturday.
Add another name to the list: Heart of Lions have asked the question everybody in the game has been asking about Djigui Haidara. The answer from Wa All Stars has not changed — yet.

Words at Wa All Stars training over how hard people work
Somebody said out loud what several people had been thinking. Yaw Nuhu is at the centre of it, and the squad will now find out whether the standard rises or the pair of them simply stop speaking.
