A falling-out at Racing Santander
Sergio Canales and a teammate went at it, and not about football. Training grounds are small places and a long season makes them smaller.

No hiding place for Óscar Sielva
“I pick players who do the work. All of it.” No name was spoken; every camera still turned to Óscar Sielva, and the manager let it.

Asier Villalibre has become a man the manager trusts
Nobody at Racing Santander will say this on the record and the team sheets have been saying it for weeks. There is a small group in every squad who get picked when the fixture is difficult, and he has joined it.

Jorge Salinas knocks on the manager’s door
“Thirty minutes, door closed, everything said. We shook hands after.” Whatever was in the room stayed in the room, and Jorge Salinas trained the next morning like a man with less to carry.

Juan Carlos Arana linked with a move away
The name of Juan Carlos Arana keeps appearing in other people's back pages. Racing Santander say nothing, which says plenty.

Aarón goes back to face Celta
Every squad has one of these fixtures for somebody every season. This one is Aarón’s: the club that knew him first, the supporters who will decide in the first minute whether to applaud, and Racing Santander needing him to play as if none of it matters.

Still no ink between Racing Santander and Paulino De la Fuente
“We keep meeting, and we keep leaving the room with the same numbers we walked in with.” Another round of talks at Racing Santander, another week without a signature from Paulino De la Fuente.

Giorgos Koutroubis remains an outsider
A year in and the city has not opened up, the language has not come, and lunch is eaten alone more often than anybody at Racing Santander would admit. It shows on Saturdays.

Home comforts ahead for Racing Santander
Celta, position 14, come to town on Saturday. Nobody will call it a big game and nobody at the club will be treating it as anything else.
