The board have said in public what they had been saying in private. Results between now and the next meeting decide it, and everybody in the building knows the arithmetic.

A deal that was a phone call from completion at lunchtime was dead by midnight. Macarthur FC will try again when the window opens; Newcastle Jets may not be selling by then.
A change in the dugout is not one story, it is twenty-five of them. This is Sebastian Esposito's: he was somebody's player, and now he has to be somebody else's, starting from nothing.

Liam Rose was at the centre of it, and by the time it was pulled apart there were three or four others involved. Training grounds are small places and long seasons make them smaller.

Nobody will confirm this and nothing else explains the last month of selections. A costly error buys a player a period of being second choice that is always longer than the error was.
A month is long enough that nobody gets in by accident. Jesse Cummings is in the division's best eleven for it, which is a quieter compliment than an award and a more reliable one.

Something was said to Sebastian Esposito and then it happened. In this industry that passes for remarkable, and the dressing room noticed faster than any supporter could.
Marked 4.88. Nothing he attempted worked and by the hour mark he had stopped attempting much, which is the part a manager notices rather than the mistakes.
At 19 he is being measured against the rest of the division's kids and coming out in front. The senior version of this award is where the club would like this to lead.
