The Stjarnan Chronicle

24 Aug 2026
From our football correspondent Upbeat

Match22 Aug 2026

No mercy from Stjarnan

IBV will want this one forgotten quickly: 3‑0, every duel lost, and a long ride home. Stjarnan were ruthless in the way good sides are ruthless.

Player ratings24 Aug 2026

Andri Rúnar Bjarnason scores twice — 8.77

Two goals and a mark of 8.77 to go with them. Strikers are judged on afternoons like this one and remembered for far fewer of them than people imagine.

Market24 Aug 2026

Emil Atlason hands in a written request

“I have nothing bad to say about this place. I just need to be somewhere else.” It is in writing now, which changes what Stjarnan can pretend not to have heard.

Boardroom24 Aug 2026

Stjarnan go back to the board over Óskar Borgþórsson

The number the board signed off was not enough. It has been asked again and raised its own offer to $90.0K — a club that wants Óskar Borgþórsson enough to be asked twice.

Market24 Aug 2026

The Breidablik deal is off

Everything was agreed until it was not, and Jón Hrafn Barkarson reports back to Stjarnan with a summer to forget. Neither club is saying who walked away from the table.

Transfer targets24 Aug 2026

Too dear: Stjarnan walk away from Óskar Borgþórsson

$87.0K was the most the club would pay and Vikingur were asking for more. Deals like this are revived in the last week of a window roughly half the time, and everybody involved knows it.

The terraces24 Aug 2026

Stjarnan supporters have found a favourite in Hrafn Guðmundsson

There is a particular warmth a ground reserves for a 20-year-old it feels ownership of. Hrafn Guðmundsson has it now, and everything he does for the rest of his time here will be measured against the goodwill he was handed for free.

Player ratings24 Aug 2026

One of those days for Benedikt V. Warén

There is a version of this player everybody suspected was in there, and on this evidence it is. 8.06, and no argument anywhere in the ground.

Squad24 Aug 2026

Words exchanged at Stjarnan

Davíð Ingvarsson and a teammate said things this week that will take longer than a week to unsay. It was not about football, and both of them play on Saturday.

Match12 Aug 2026

Stjarnan bow out of the cup

Leiknir go through and Stjarnan go home, 0‑0 the scoreline that did it. The dressing room will call the league the priority now, because that is what dressing rooms say.

Squad17 Aug 2026

Árni Snær Ólafsson is the hero from the spot

A shoot-out is remembered by its ending, and this one ends with Árni Snær Ólafsson: 1 kept out, and a set of supporters who will describe every one of them for the next twenty years.

Boardroom17 Aug 2026

Deadline passes with 15 signed and 1 gone

That is the business done at Stjarnan until the window opens again. Whether it was enough will be answered on Saturdays rather than in a column, and the first Saturday is close.

Squad17 Aug 2026

Words exchanged at Stjarnan

Örvar Eggertsson and a teammate said things this week that will take longer than a week to unsay. It was not about football, and both of them play on Saturday.

Transfer targets17 Aug 2026

Stjarnan make their move for Óskar Borgþórsson

$85.0K on the table at Vikingur. The manager wanted him, the board agreed a number, and the only voices still to be heard are the ones at the other club.

The terraces17 Aug 2026

Stjarnan spend $190.0K on the signing the town wanted

It is the rarest sequence in football: supporters ask for something, and the club goes and does it. $190.0K for Davíð Ingvarsson, and for one week nobody is complaining about anything.

Boardroom17 Aug 2026

Stjarnan beat the market to Marko Zivkovic from Leiknir

Leiknir will keep picking him until June and will get nothing for him after it. Marko Zivkovic has pre-agreed a move to Stjarnan, and the only people who lose in that arrangement are the ones who let the contract run down.

Player ratings17 Aug 2026

The game went through Alex Þór Hauksson — 7.18

Marked 7.18 on 12 actions at both ends of the pitch. Midfielders like this get described as unspectacular by people who have never tried to play against one.

The terraces17 Aug 2026

The crowd has taken to Bjarki Hauksson

At 20 he is being sung about by people twice his age, which is an affection a signing has to earn over years and a local kid gets for turning up. It is also the hardest thing in football to live up to.

Market10 Aug 2026

Stjarnan say no — this time

The offer from Fjolnir for Örvar Eggertsson was heard out and sent back the same day. First bids are rarely meant to succeed; they are meant to find out how loudly the door closes.

Squad10 Aug 2026

Árni Snær Ólafsson keeps Stjarnan in it on his own

Some afternoons a goalkeeper is the team. 7 saves, several of them the sort nobody expects to see stopped, and a scoreline that flatters everybody in front of him.

Player ratings10 Aug 2026

Andri Rúnar Bjarnason, 35, rolls back the years — 8.04

There is an age at which every good afternoon gets described as a throwback, which is unfair and also accurate. 8.04 at 35, and nobody on the pitch was better.

Transfer targets10 Aug 2026

An offer of $140.0K for Davíð Ingvarsson

Stjarnan have gone to Breidablik with a bid, and the supporters have gone to the internet with an opinion about it. Whether either changes anything is up to the selling club.

Squad10 Aug 2026

Örvar Eggertsson in a row with a teammate

It was not about football and everybody who saw it knows that. Two men who have to play together on Saturday said things at Stjarnan this week that will take longer than a week to unsay.

Transfer targets10 Aug 2026

Stjarnan make their move for Stígur Diljan Þórðarson

$78.0K on the table at Vikingur. The manager wanted him, the board agreed a number, and the only voices still to be heard are the ones at the other club.

Squad10 Aug 2026

Birnir Snær Ingason stays put

“The easiest signature of my career.” Birnir Snær Ingason and Stjarnan agree another 4 years, and the manager can plan around him rather than about him.

Transfer targets10 Aug 2026

Door shut on Viktor Bjarki Daðason

Stjarnan asked and FC Copenhagen said no without discussing a figure. It is the least ambiguous answer in football and the one clubs most often come back to test.

Market10 Aug 2026

Stjarnan promote Arnor Halldorsson from within

The academy exists for exactly this morning. Arnor Halldorsson has come through every age group the club runs and has now been handed a senior number, and the people who coached him at twelve will be the proudest in the building.

Andri Rúnar Bjarnason, 35, rolls back the years — 7.85

There is an age at which every good afternoon gets described as a throwback, which is unfair and also accurate. 7.85 at 35, and nobody on the pitch was better.

“The easiest signature of my career.” Örvar Eggertsson and Stjarnan agree another 4 years, and the manager can plan around him rather than about him.

Squad3 Aug 2026

Tempers go at Stjarnan

Örvar Eggertsson was at the centre of it, and by the time it was pulled apart there were three or four others involved. Training grounds are small places and long seasons make them smaller.

Match1 Aug 2026

Andri Rúnar Bjarnason the difference as Stjarnan beat Leiknir

Ask anyone on the way out what separated the sides and you will get one name: Andri Rúnar Bjarnason. 2‑1 against Leiknir, and the applause at the whistle was mostly his.

Market3 Aug 2026

Eyes on Daníel Finns Matthíasson again

The phone has started ringing about Daníel Finns Matthíasson again, and this time the name on the line is Fylkir. Stjarnan are listening politely and promising nothing.

Match1 Aug 2026

Andri Rúnar Bjarnason at the heart of a fast Stjarnan start

2 goals inside twenty minutes with Andri Rúnar Bjarnason in the middle of it, and Leiknir unable to get near the ball long enough to change anything. Some matches are won before the first drink.

Player ratings3 Aug 2026

A masterclass from Birnir Snær Ingason

Marked 8.02 — the sort of number a correspondent writes down twice to be sure. Everything he tried came off, and what he did not try was not worth trying.

Market3 Aug 2026

The clock runs on Örvar Eggertsson's contract

49 months left and silence from upstairs — no offer, no talks, nothing for his people to answer. Clubs that let a calendar do their negotiating usually end up negotiating with the calendar.

Market3 Aug 2026

Talks stall between Stjarnan and Árni Snær Ólafsson

“We are a long way apart, and pretending otherwise helps nobody.” Neither side is close, and the calendar is not on the club's side.
