There is a particular warmth a ground reserves for a 21-year-old it feels ownership of. David Harutyunyan has it now, and everything he does for the rest of his time here will be measured against the goodwill he was handed for free.
Another week, another link, another denial nobody quite believes. Urartu-2 know the market decides these things, not the back pages — but the back pages are louder.
6 wins in a row changes how opponents warm up: quieter, more glances across. Runs end, everybody knows that — but nobody in this dressing room is planning for it.
1 for Artur Melikyan, marked 7.90, and a centre-half's name in the part of the report he normally only reaches by mistake. He will not be allowed to forget it in the dressing room for a month.
6 goals. Both benches spent the second half looking at each other rather than at the pitch. Purists will complain about Urartu-2 and BKMA-2 in equal measure; everybody else had a wonderful time.
“I did not come here to warm up in front of people.” He is out of contract eventually, he is old enough to count the weeks, and Urartu-2 will have to give him a reason to stay or an exit.
5 attempts, none of them in. He got into the right places all afternoon, which is the hard part, and did the easy part badly — and that is the version of a bad day a manager can live with.
“Nobody outside is coming to save us.” It was short, it was not comfortable, and by all accounts the Urartu-2 squad were quieter afterwards than they had been all season.
Elyas Kharrat, 20, plays like he has been here for years — 8.01
A mark of 8.01 means one thing beside a twenty-nine-year-old's name and something else entirely beside a 20-year-old's. Nobody at the ground needed telling which this was.
At 20 he is being sung about by people twice his age, which is an affection a signing has to earn over years and a local kid gets for turning up. It is also the hardest thing in football to live up to.
It finished 2‑0, and it was Cameron Manang’s afternoon: on the scoresheet when it mattered, and the reason the points belong to Urartu-2.

Elyas Kharrat is the division's best young player this month
At 20 he has spent a month being better than everybody his age in the league, which is a different and harder thing than one good afternoon. Urartu-2 will try very hard not to make too much of it.
“I have done everything asked of me in training and it has not changed a thing on a Saturday.” The most familiar complaint in football, and one Urartu-2 will have to answer with minutes or with a transfer.
Four or five weekends of consistency, judged against everybody in the division doing his job. Artur Melikyan has come out of that comparison in the side, and Urartu-2 have had the benefit of every one of those afternoons.
Every squad has one of these fixtures for somebody every season. This one is Hamlet Sargsyan’s: the club that knew him first, the supporters who will decide in the first minute whether to applaud, and Urartu-2 needing him to play as if none of it matters.
4 wins on the spin now, and the question has changed from whether the run ends to who ends it. Confidence like this cannot be bought; it has to be earned exactly this way.
Yevhen Tsymbaliuk and a teammate said things this week that will take longer than a week to unsay. It was not about football, and both of them play on Saturday.
There is a particular warmth a ground reserves for a 23-year-old it feels ownership of. Cameron Manang has it now, and everything he does for the rest of his time here will be measured against the goodwill he was handed for free.
There is a particular helplessness in conceding 2 times before the twentieth minute. Van-2 tried to reorganise, Urartu-2 did not allow it, and the result was written long before it was confirmed.
At 20 he is being measured against the rest of the division's kids and coming out in front. The senior version of this award is where the club would like this to lead.
A brace, and Elyas Kharrat takes the afternoon — 8.14
There is a particular kind of quiet from an away end watching one man score twice. Elyas Kharrat provided it, and the 8.14 beside his name is if anything generous to everybody else.
3 wins in a row changes how opponents warm up: quieter, more glances across. Runs end, everybody knows that — but nobody in this dressing room is planning for it.
At 20 he is being sung about by people twice his age, which is an affection a signing has to earn over years and a local kid gets for turning up. It is also the hardest thing in football to live up to.
Successful dribbles: 12. He went past people as if he had been told there was a prize for it, and by the end the full-back had stopped pretending to try.
“I am not asking anybody to be better than they are. I am asking everybody to be as good as they are, every week.” Said out loud, in front of everybody, and the room at Urartu-2 was different afterwards.
Played out of position, hooked on the hour, asked to be somebody he is not — the details vary and the mood does not. Urartu-2 have a player doing his work under protest.
Marked 8.16 — the sort of number a correspondent writes down twice to be sure. Everything he tried came off, and what he did not try was not worth trying.
At 20 he was better than everybody his age in the division for four weeks running, which is harder than one good afternoon. Urartu-2 will try not to make too much of it.
“Thirty minutes, door closed, everything said. We shook hands after.” Whatever was in the room stayed in the room, and Cameron Manang trained the next morning like a man with less to carry.
Marked 8.15 at 20, in a side that makes no allowances for age. He did not need any, and he looked the least nervous man on the pitch.

Words at Urartu-2 training over how hard people work
Somebody said out loud what several people had been thinking. Hamlet Sargsyan is at the centre of it, and the squad will now find out whether the standard rises or the pair of them simply stop speaking.
Ask anyone on the way out what separated the sides and you will get one name: Edik Vardanyan. 2‑1 against Pyunik-2, and the applause at the whistle was mostly his.
At 23 he is being sung about by people twice his age, which is an affection a signing has to earn over years and a local kid gets for turning up. It is also the hardest thing in football to live up to.
“It had gone on long enough. I would rather have it out than leave it sitting there.” Ten minutes behind a closed door at Urartu-2, and both men came out saying it was fine.

Elyas Kharrat, 20, is the weekend’s best young player
Measured against every other kid in the division and first among them. The senior award is where Urartu-2 would like this to lead.
Somebody said out loud what several people thought about how hard another man trains, and Hamlet Sargsyan was in the middle of it. The one dressing-room argument that is genuinely about football.
The clubs have settled the fee and he has settled his wages. What remains is a medical and a photograph, and around Urartu-2 people have started saying his name in the past tense.
The hardest thing about being 20 in a senior side is that nobody makes allowances. Elyas Kharrat did not need any: 7.69, and he looked the most comfortable man on the pitch.
2 goals inside twenty minutes with Elyas Kharrat in the middle of it, and Syunik unable to get near the ball long enough to change anything. Some matches are won before the first drink.

Alikadi Saidov was on a different afternoon to everybody else
8.01. There are performances a supporter describes to somebody who was not there and cannot quite convey; this was one, and the number does not help either.
“It had gone on long enough. I would rather have it out than leave it sitting there.” Ten minutes behind a closed door at Urartu-2, and both men came out saying it was fine.
“This is not anger. I have thought about it for months, and nothing that has happened lately changed my mind.” The request is on a desk at Urartu-2, and it is not being withdrawn.
Somebody said out loud what several people thought about how hard another man trains, and Hamlet Sargsyan was in the middle of it. The one dressing-room argument that is genuinely about football.
It was not about football and everybody who saw it knows that. Two men who have to play together on Saturday said things at Urartu-2 this week that will take longer than a week to unsay.
“I did not come here to warm up in front of people.” He is out of contract eventually, he is old enough to count the weeks, and Urartu-2 will have to give him a reason to stay or an exit.

The hardest thing about being 20 in a senior side is that nobody makes allowances. Elyas Kharrat did not need any: 7.75, and he looked the most comfortable man on the pitch.
Ask anyone on the way out what separated the sides and you will get one name: Elyas Kharrat. 2‑1 against Ararat-2, and the applause at the whistle was mostly his.
He is 23 and the ground already sings his name, which is a thing that happens to local boys and almost never to signings. Everything from here is measured against an affection he did nothing to earn except be from here.
“If we are going to be beaten, let it not be because somebody in here could not be bothered.” He stood up and said it in front of everybody, which is a thing a squad remembers about a man for years.
Urartu-2 have made Ismaël Soukouna available for transfer. A career at this club is over in all but paperwork.

The crowd stays with them
3 of the 10 senior squad came off to the sort of reception a club has to earn. Support like that is not unconditional, but this week it was not asked to be.
A side in position 4 visits next. The result will not make anybody’s season and it could quietly break the shape of one, which is why the manager has been watching the video since Sunday.
Some afternoons a goalkeeper is the whole of the defence. 7 saves, several of them the kind nobody expects to see made, and ten outfield players who owe him a drink.
There was one mistake and it ended in the net. Defenders are judged on the worst thing they did rather than on the eighty-nine minutes either side of it, which is unfair and is also the job.
“Thirty minutes, door closed, everything said. We shook hands after.” Whatever was in the room stayed in the room, and Hamlet Sargsyan trained the next morning like a man with less to carry.
Nothing is announced when this happens and everybody knows. He is a bigger part of the plan at Urartu-2 than he was a month ago, and the training ground worked that out before the team sheet said so.
A new face in his position and a shirt he thought he owned suddenly up for discussion. Urartu-2 have promised nothing, which is what clubs promise at this stage.
The board had gone up, the arguing had started, and then the ball was in the net in the 92th minute. Ararat-Armenia-2 will replay every second of the added time for a week.
The clubs have settled the fee and he has settled his wages. What remains is a medical and a photograph, and around Urartu-2 people have started saying his name in the past tense.

Elyas Kharrat, 20, plays like he has been here for years — 8.22
A mark of 8.22 means one thing beside a twenty-nine-year-old's name and something else entirely beside a 20-year-old's. Nobody at the ground needed telling which this was.
A 4‑3 win over Ararat-Armenia-2, earned rather than given, and the sort of afternoon that sends everyone home talking about next week instead of this one.
Two or more conceded in each of the last 4 matches. It is not one mistake repeating itself, which would be the easier thing to fix; it is a different one every week.
Shots: 18. Goals: none. The chances were there and they were good ones, and they went into the stand, the goalkeeper's arms and the side netting in roughly that order.
13 attempts, none of them in. He got into the right places all afternoon, which is the hard part, and did the easy part badly — and that is the version of a bad day a manager can live with.

Ask anyone on the way out what separated the sides and you will get one name: Edik Vardanyan. 5‑4 against Van-2, and the applause at the whistle was mostly his.
Two of the goals had his name somewhere on them, which is the afternoon a manager wants from anybody asked to both create and finish. 5.75, and 2 involvements.
Involvement in 2 goals, from a player who spent the ninety minutes doing the thing a manager actually wants: being where the ball was going to end up. 7.93 beside his name.
9 goals in one match, Edik Vardanyan on the scoresheet, and a scoreline that will look like a misprint. Neutrals could not have asked more of Urartu-2 and Van-2.
There is a particular warmth a ground reserves for a 23-year-old it feels ownership of. Cameron Manang has it now, and everything he does for the rest of his time here will be measured against the goodwill he was handed for free.
Marked 7.84. There is a kind of forward whose value only shows up when you count what he was involved in rather than what he finished, and this is the day that argument makes itself.
He is 23 and the ground already sings his name, which is a thing that happens to local boys and almost never to signings. Everything from here is measured against an affection he did nothing to earn except be from here.
